Kakamuchee and we…
Wondering what is Kakamuchee ? For maharashtrians you may relate it to an uncle with a moustache (Know it’s a bad PJ).
“Kakamuchee” , one of the oldest known name of our own “aapli Mumbai”. After a long break just thought of writing something and thought of nothing better but to write about my Janmbhoomi.
Few days back, while sitting on the Katta at Worli sea face, i had a striking conversation with a watchmen working at one of the Swanky Builiding coming up.
“ me: kya saab kidhar se aaye ho ?
WM: Uttar pradesh..
Me : Mayawatiji ka desh…
Wm : Haan sir, mumbai sabko bhaati hai…
After a friendly introductory session, I came to know that this guy (Balwant) has come all the way from UP for his bread and butter and is working almost 20 hours a day in shifts and earning just Rs.5000.
Being a UPite my MNS side woke up and I started questioning him,
me: mujhe bata tum log wahhan se aate ho, kya pata kya hai tumhe Mumbai ke bare mein…
WM: Bambai bahut badi hai..
me: Bambai nahi Mumbai bol pehle…
WM: ji sir (Laughing)… app hi batau na sir mumbai ke bare mein…
and then I started with all my gyaanbazi which I always love to do. Our conversation started from siddhivinayak, Railways, Roadways, TAJ, Gateway of India. I noticed his sparkling eyes…and I was going on and on. I felt like I am writing an essay on “Mumbai Meri Jaan”
After 20 minutes of preaching, I said : chal bhai, nikalta hu, milte hai kabhi phir se..
WM: sahab ek baat batau, bura na mano..
Me: bol yaar…
WM: aapne bahut baatein bataye batayee Mumbai ke baare mein, par ek cheez nahi hai yaha..
Me: kya?
WM: Insaan kaha hai..insaaniyat ka koi nishhan hi nahi, jeena mushkil hai yaahan..
His words struck me like a bullet, showing ignorance to what he said I just smiled at him and moved on..
With thoughts running in my mind, I closed my eyes and questioned myself.. Is that true? I wasn’t able to answer and as a typical human tendency of non-acceptance of fact came up.
Frankly that uneducated poor fellow spoke up the truth which we the so called ''Mumbaikars'' will never accept. We go gaga about Mumbai but fact is its without Humanity.
Mumbaikars have become selfish, least concerned about others. Even relations are now maintained through webs than knocking anyone’s door. Morning 7 o’clock local is most important than waving hands with an old mother and asking her how are you? Priorities have changed from spending time with dear one’s to weekend boozing
Mumbai and Mumbaikars have lost their peace and it’s difficult to get it back..
I drove away and swithced on the radio…
“ Aap hai jituraj ke saath aur agla gaana hai mumbai ka favourite gaana”
{Aye dil hai mushkil jeena yahan...
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Ha haa, ha ho ho, ho hi haa ha haa
Hm hm hm hm, hm hm hm , hm hm hm hm hm
Aye dil hai..}
(Kahin building kahin traame, kahin motor kahin mill
Milta hai yahan sab kuchh ik milta nahin dil)
Insaan ka nahin kahin naam-o-nishaan
Zara hat ke zara bach ke, yeh hai Bombay meri jaan
Aye dil hai..
So true...
ReplyDeleteSong is apt for Mumbai, so old song but stands true still.
Nice thought....
